I attended UNC Chapel Hill in 65-69. I come from California political family. I have a few suggestions that could help as I have been inundated over the years with campaign data that becomes a bit of a blur over time. Never once in all my years has any candidate for any office at any level ever asked for input without asking for money. It is always a repetitive hammering with the implicit message that the candidate is selling a product with no real concern for what individuals who the polls miss, who might have a good idea or two. It is pretty clear that even the candidates with whom I agree have no idea and are stuck in dominant narratives about how to run for office that don't seem to work that well. Why not try sending a message or two saying. "I am not in this message going to ask you for money. This is a request for the currency of your ideas and thoughts about what matters to you and how we can improve the process of getting elected." Then add a few talking points that do not include what you know you can't deliver. Over promising makes constituents cynical. You will find out who is motivated to respond, who might have ideas you have not thought of and begin build a relationship that can turn into financial support. I am not positive this will work but I have never seen it tried. Wishing you all the best in your campaign. Ward

Thank you so much for deciding to run! We need to get a Democratic senator in D.C. to represent North Carolinians, especially now that we are so gerrymandered, it isn't really the voters who select our House members.
Ward is on the right track. I get these messages saying it is only an opinion survey, sometimes even claiming not to be fundraising, but they are always just a funnel to the fundraising, which is clearly the true objective as is obvious from the second question on. This format has been used in Dem fundraising for years and never gets less insulting. You can't guilt me into donating. I still open one every once in a while but just end up deleting when it is the same old sh☆t.
I also seem to be on different lists within the Cooper machine - one treats me as one of their most committed supporters and the other asking me to make my first donation. Wut?
I canvassed for Obama, Hillary, and other more local candidates over the years, and the Obama organization was far and away better than anything else I experienced. My 2 cents.
For the record, I am all in for Cooper, though I am sad he is having to do this. He is our best shot at getting our voices heard in the Senate and I am grateful he is willing to do it. And I am donating, but usually directly vs via the fundraising emails.
I am glad he is posting here as I will never see a tv ad.
Governor Cooper, & I was glad to vote for you during your first run for governor. & will do so again for you to be senator. So I just want to add that I hope your campaign staff is working on the digital campaign front because I just saw these negative campaign ads while on Hulu. So I hope your staffers are countering on there, YouTube & other platforms.
We wish you had stayed on the farm as that is where you belong. I recall listening to a 20 interview with you on abortion. You answered every question with the democratic policy position that "reproductive rights" was the only issue. Not once did you mention the life in the womb, NOT ONCE. You are a baby killer and hypocrite. Shame on you. Go home and stay there!
